Terms of Endearment

Recently as I began my repertoire of endearments to my little cherub/grandson I wondered about how many ways and types of phrases there are to express love to another.
"Let me count the ways" is uppermost in my mind.
"How do I love thee?"
Then I figured that most of us categorize our expressions of love.
To friends we hug and admire and feel familial love.
To family, we love unconditionally and express our love in sacrifice, caring and giving a sense of belonging.
To spouses, we experience an all encompassing feeling of love which entails security, passion and a feeling of forever.
However, when it comes to baby we truly go gooey with love.
We want a child to be welcomed into the world and we gradually introduce him to the reality of everyday life. But not yet. No, no, not yet. We will try to shelter him from the brouhaha of events and lull him with "Spongebob Square Pants" and "Wa WA WA" tv shows and keep him close and happy for as along as we can.
In the meantime, we will coo and croon to the little ones in our lives.

Goo.gaga or Lady Gaga..How to talk to a baby

Looking for ways to amuse my newest cherub/grandchild I reached into the recesses of my mind and mulled over the question..what would a new baby like to hear? Lullabies, Katy Perry, The cast album recreation of The Sound of Music or Itsy, Bitsy Spider?
Some people have the baby talk knack down to a science. They make the cooing and expressions  and the oohing and aahing and the baby mimics them right back. Or right back atcha Grandma.
Me, not so much. I did not talk baby talk to my little ones and the first child spoke in full sentences when she first uttered.."What's to eat, Mother? The fridge looks empty to me." Of course she jiggled the jello containers before they were jello and oops onto the floor they went. I did not utter any words..just cleaned the sticky jello from the pristine floor.
So the other day I began the medley of Lady Gaga and Katy Perry and Michael Jackson with a few songs such as "My favorite things" and he smiled at me and I think that he will forgive an old lady if she tries to mimic Beyonce.
What are your favorite songs or things to amuse a baby? I can use all the help that I can get.

Bring On Tomorrow - Barry Manilow - YouTube

Bring On Tomorrow - Barry Manilow - YouTube

So many irons in the fire..

Sometimes  I fear that I might become bored. Not the case these last few years.
Reading novels until I fear my eyes will cross, savoring new TV shows, trying out new knitting projects. Even joining a writing contest last year..NaNoWrimo.
Ha!  That was a learning experience. Here I thought that I could knock off a story in no time flat and I became paralyzed with fear and writer's block.
Then I reassessed the project.  Even with my trusty craft books on writing I had the humbling experience of realizing that  I had so much to learn about writing.
I have a new appreciation for the blood, sweat and tears that go into a good story.
Do I feel defeated? No..just energized by the fact that the writing challenge awaits me and that life itself is an ongoing ebb and flow. My hat is off to all who ever became published and to those who soon will have the chance to be seen in print.
